What is Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring?

Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring, also known as LVT, is a type of vinyl flooring that has many of the advantages of wood or stone, but with few of the disadvantages. This material is an excellent choice for any kitchen. Moreover, it has an aesthetic appeal.

What is Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring?

In this post, we’re going to explore how LVT is made, what makes it so effective, and whether or not it might be the right choice for your own rooms.

How LVT is Made

As the name should suggest, LVT is created from vinyl. Vinyl is a material that has a number of advantages. These are compounded by the fact that LVT will almost always consist of multiple layers.

LVT is produced by a number of different manufacturers/brands. That means it will have different properties depending on which of these you got it from. However, in nearly all cases, LVT is going to have multiple different layers – usually a minimum of five! This helps to ensure that the floor is durable and water-resistant.

Usually, the top layer of LVT will be made from a transparent and protective coating. This keeps the flooring underneath well protected from damage. Below this is the design layer, which is what gives the LVT its unique appearance. We’ll discuss this more shortly, as it comes in a wide range of different looks, each of which has unique benefits.

The final layers are then used to stabilize the flooring and give it further durability. LVT is then cut into tiles, which have interlocking elements underneath. These allow the tiles to fit seamlessly together, creating a watertight seal.

Durability and Care

All these properties mean that you can spill water or food onto your flooring and then wipe it up with a dry cloth. Unlike a carpet, this won’t absorb the fluid and won’t cause further damage. But while ceramic tiles and stone have a lot of benefits in this regard, they also have drawbacks. In particular, they will often result in flooring that is very cold underfoot. Secondly, they can be hard as well! This is particularly a big issue if you have young children in your home or elderly relatives. Falling on this flooring (which can also be slippery) is very dangerous!

Here is where vinyl flooring comes in handy again: it is not only durable but also looks amazing.

A Style for Every Home

Another big advantage of vinyl flooring is that you can easily adapt it to any environment. This is because the design layer can be varied to look precisely the way you want it to.

For example, you can use your design layer to give vinyl the appearance of stone or tile! This can give it a more natural and premium effect, without detracting from the properties that attracted you to vinyl in the first place. Likewise, you can get vinyl flooring that looks a lot like wood.

Easily Replaced

The other excellent advantage of LVT is the tile format. While LVT is more durable than many other types of flooring, it can still be damaged if something cuts or tears it. That’s because the top layers are somewhat soft to touch, and therefore can be damaged.

But thanks to the fact that these are tiles, you can easily take out any damaged segment and simply replace it with an identical tile. When ordering vinyl tiles from a flooring provider like Carpet Land, we recommend ordering a few extras. This way, you need never worry about them getting damaged ever again!
